Insert Name-Based pun and/or witty title here: Uhhh.

Names are not only a word that we are called, but a door to ourselves, our origins, and our traditions. Names can be a whole new story, or of a past relative who held the same name. Something as significant as a name has possibilities of holding stories in on themselves. Many different names can be creative, or personal to the person or the family that gave them that name. Some names are not picked for us as babies, but for the history it holds in the family. The name itself can also hold a personality which can be reflected to the person who has that name. Traits such as colors, tastes, or sounds can also be a way to describe a name by the way it sounds.

Judging by the music i just put on, you could make the assumption that I am Scottish. And you are right. Most of all my family came from Scotland except a small percentage came from France. Another name in my family is MacPherson. That is the name of my Scottish clan. My brother holds the name MacPherson because that is his middle name. The name MacPherson dates back to my Scottish ancestors and their family. With my family, most of our names involve our Scottish heritage behind them. Then name McPherson itself means "Son of the Parson" and my clan was said to have been founded by a priest named Murdo Cattenach. What else that is also involved in my Scottish heritage is how names are spelled or how they are belonging to more than one person.

Names in my family can also be classified as a sort of tradition. My grandmother, mother, and sister all have the middle name Marie. For example, my name, Collin Patrick Burns, shows my family history as being Scottish. The name Colin is American because there is only one “L”, but the name Collin is Scottish because of the second “L.” My name Collin means "child" which makes sense since I am the youngest in my family. In the English term, it means "Of a triumphant people." However, on Urban Dictionary, the definition of my name is and I quote, "An absolute flawless individual that possesses nearly super-human intelligence, almost ridiculous good looks, and incredibly knack for athletic events, and unrivaled talent in everything they do. Also, someone that everyone else wishes they could be like" (Urban Dictionary).

The only problem with my name is that I cannot find anything with my name on it.

A question I was asked was “If my name was a color, what color would it be?” My answer to that question would be a cooler blue. I chose blue because unlike red which is bolder, blue is quieter and calmer, and seems more collective than just rash and assertive. Blue can also be a stern color if darker. Other colors are too out there and in your face per-say, like bright yellow, or neon anything. That seems more like me, more collective and calm. A color like red shows boldness and more controlling. Whenever I see blue I think more free and mellow. But also at the same time, it can be the complete opposite, depending on the shade. It is also not too dark like black, or to light like white. At the right shade, blue can be calming, whether it is the blue of the sky, or of a blueberry. Blueberries are also one of my favorite fruits.

Another question was “If my name was a flavor of ice cream, what flavor would it be?” If I had to think about, I would say the flavor would be Rocky Road. I would say that because Rocky Road has a lot of things contained in it like nuts, and chocolate and things like that. My name also has extra aspects to it, like the extra “L”, which is uncommon. Also the name Collin is Scottish, and that is where some of my ancestors and be traced back to. So like Rocky Road, my name has some little extra to it. My name has a mix of uncommonness and tradition. Rocky Road is not my favorite flavor to be honest. I'm not really a big fan of ice creasm anyway. I enjoy more of a yogurt. Especially Trix.

To be honest, I love my name. I love how it sounds, and the tradition behind it. My name means a lot to me, and I can't think of another name I'd rather have. Some people do not like their names and i can understand that. A name isn't tailor-made for you, all it is a word that parents or other family members picked for you. I for one am happy with my name for all the meaning that was put behind it.
